The Flinders Rangers area is just beautiful. Despite how dry it is its still full of life! We drove to a town called Quorn about 35ks out of PA then into the Dutchman NP where we drove on an unsealed road for about 2ks to a carpark and start of the walk. We walked up the mountain for about an hour til we reached a gorgeous lookout. The higher parts of the mountain rock are quartzy and the lower silty. The boys loved getting out their home made geology kit and digging around in a patch of dirt and rock looking for interesting specimens! They managed to bag and tag all sorts of interesting rock and soil (Wil loves the SA red dirt "its so soft i want to sleep in it" quote unquote!) Wil also found and dissected some interesting different animal droppings trying to identify what animal it was! I think he may have bagged some of that too so you'll be lucky enough to check it out yourself when we get back! Harry managed to break open a little slab of rock with lots of different layers -great find!
Back at camp we bought fresh drinking water supplies and filled up the caravan tank as theres no water hook up now til Alice Springs. Dont worry, there's coin operated water supply with lovely drinking water from bores that have then been filtered so we wont shrivel up!
Tomorrow we're off to Woomera, should be some great stuff to see there -stay tuned!
