Normanton and Karumba (on the Gulf of Carpentaria)

We overnighted at Mt Isa, the largest mining area in Australia then the next morning turned upwards towards the coast heading for Normanton. (Quamby and Burke and Wills roadhouse were on the way to Normanton) Normanton was an interesting town with lots of heritage buildings and history. The next morning we unhitched the caravan and went to Kuranda for half a day to check it out -very popular fishing destination! After a lovely seafood lunch at the pub on the beach we headed back to Normanton to pick up the caravan and then drove to Croydon on our way to Undara National Park.
This is a replica of the largest croc ever found. 9 metres long! The diameter is a bit exaggerated as they bloat after they die. Official records and the data were lost in the floods in the 70's so it was made off photos..

Train station from the 1800's still used today travelling between Normanton and Croydon weekly over the dry season

The rest of the photos below are of Kuranda
