Cairns!

Cairns was lovely. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worst as we arrived but it wasnt cold at least. The north didnt get much of a wet season but there's certainly been lots of rain the last couple of weeks! Luckily it didnt turn really rough until after we'd been snorkelling on the reef!
Below is photos of the esplanade which goes for around 3kms. The first photos are on the shore in the heart of the city where there is a lovely lagoon pool. As you head in one direction there is great little play grounds, water parks, skate park and cafes dotted along it. In the other direction you reach the wharf area which looks over to the mangroves and boats and again lovely playground called the fig playground as its a giant fig tree for climbing which theyve built an adventure playground around, and theres lots of bbq's and restaurants overlooking the water etc. Its fantastic. Lots of free community exercise programs too like aqua aerobics, boxercise, yoga etc at different times throughout the morning and evenings, great resource.

the tide goes right out exposing lots of scuttling crabs!

lovely Queenslander, drool

we walked the length of the esplanade which ends at the Botanical Gardens which has a walk up a very high hill through rain forest and has a beautiful view of Cairns water line..
