After Top Didj we drove to a town called Mataranka famous for its natural hot springs, and stayed at a place called Bitter Springs. It was a lovely bushy camp site and the boys made friends with the kids who lived there and they rode their bmx s and threw their boomerang etc First thing in the morning we drove down to the springs and bobbed around in a lovely 34 degrees! We took pool noodles with us and you could hop in one end and a gentle but firm current drifts you slowly down to the other end where you hopped out and walked along a track back to the start and did it all over again!

Crossing the border into Queensland! below, one foot in NT, one in Queensland
Quamby pub in the scrub was a bizarre encounter. It suddenly popped up out of nowhere and from the front looked like a lovely oasis in the outback. On closer inspection it was completely desserted. There were still remnants of life there, even a six pack of VB in the bar area, photos of rodeos on the wall, fridges and other equipment that looked in perfect condition about the place but then run down at the same time.. When we got to the Burke and Wills Roadhouse further on the owner there said new owners had brought the Quamby put up to scratch with accomodation etc but then one day a truckie passing through found they'd just up and left! No one knows what happened to them. Amazing none of the equipment including a truck and the pool etc were taken or sold?

Burke and Wills roadhouse, not much there!
Visitor in the laundry! there were also signs on the door to the bathrooms asking you to ensure the doors were kept closed as brown snakes often visited! nice
