Great Barrier Reef

The boys absolutely loved snorkelling the reef, the Giant Ras was definitely the highlight! It was a bit choppy and intermittent cloud which dulled the colors a bit but what had the biggest effect on the coral was the category 5 cyclone Cairns had a couple of years ago. The reef got battered and is still recovering. The last photo shows a section that was flattened by the cyclone..
It was tricky to get photos. We also saw a turtle just like in Nemo, 'totally rad dude!' and some giant clams one of which had a fluro green rim, beautiful..
It was a very full day, an hour and a half to get out to the reef as we went to the outer reef, and 3 hours out there. It also included a ride in a semi-submerged boat and a glass bottomed boat and a full buffet lunch.
